What kind of information do we collect?

How we collect information
There are a number of ways we collect information from you, including:
- Directly from you when you provide information by telephone, in person, via our website, or on forms or petitions

- From your online interactions with SASTR social media
- From a third-party made known to you, for example, petition platforms and newsletter signup platforms
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
We collect statistics on visitor traffic to our website such as length of visit and pages viewed. The information is anonymous and does not identify specific visitors.
We may track your visit to our website by using ‘cookies’. A cookie is a text-only string of information that a website transfers to the cookie file of the browser on the hard disk of your computer to enhance your experience when visiting our website. We will, from time to time ask for your support to fill in a survey or sign a petition (online and offline). Sometimes this requires a third party platform who stores your information for the primary purpose for which you have signed or answered questions. The data will not be used beyond the purpose it was designed and we will ensure that platforms we choose abide by strict privacy practices.
We will also make it known which third-parties we will use and guide you to read their privacy policies to ensure that you are informed and comfortable with the process.
You are able to opt-in to receive our monthly newsletter to receive news and updates. If you elect to receive our monthly newsletter your first name, last name and email are stored on Mailchimp, our email marketing software. We will not send you any emails that are outside of providing updates about SASTR activities and will not send on your details to any other third parties without your consent.
You can opt in via our website, email or other request and you can unsubscribe from our newsletters and emails at any time via links found at the bottom of the newsletter.
Use and disclosure of information
Your personal information may be used to:
- Provide you with information pertaining to Toodyay roads and SASTR activities
- Confirm your identity when you make enquiries
- Communicate with you about the work that SASTR is undertaking

How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
Other data, for example newsletter registration details will be retained as long as you wish, until you unsubscribe. Petition data will be stored as long as needed or permitted in light of the purposes for which it was obtained. Survey data is anonymous.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
